At the curtain raiser of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, India positioned its clean energy transformation as a credible model for global investment, cooperation and inclusive growth.
New Delhi, 23 July 2026: India’s renewable energy journey has moved beyond domestic capacity creation. It is now emerging as a global proposition—built on scale, affordability, manufacturing capability and last-mile impact.
Addressing diplomats, policymakers, industry leaders and international institutions at the curtain raiser of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, Shri Pralhad Joshi, the Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy described India’s transition as more than a story of numbers. It is a demonstration of what becomes possible when ambition is supported by policy, investment, innovation and collective action.
Over the past twelve years, India’s renewable energy capacity has grown from 76 GW to nearly 289 GW, while its total non-fossil-fuel portfolio has crossed 297 GW. The country added a record 55 GW of renewable capacity in 2025–26 and now ranks third globally in renewable energy and solar capacity, and fourth in wind energy. In June 2025, India achieved 50 per cent cumulative installed electricity capacity from non-fossil-fuel sources—five years ahead of its 2030 target.
The significance of these milestones lies not only in their scale, but in the credibility they have created.
India has pursued clean energy expansion while managing rising demand, affordability concerns and the developmental priorities of a growing economy. Its experience therefore offers practical lessons for countries confronting similar challenges.
The transition has also reached beyond large infrastructure projects. Solar tariffs have fallen from nearly ₹11 per unit to about ₹2.50. Millions of households are benefiting from rooftop solar, while more than 27 lakh solar pumps are reducing farmers’ dependence on diesel. India’s solar module manufacturing capacity has grown from 2.3 GW to 192 GW, strengthening the domestic industrial ecosystem.
The Minister framed this journey through three interconnected ideas: Urja Swaraj, Jan Kalyan and Vishwa Kalyan.
Urja Swaraj represents energy sovereignty—the ability to build domestic capability and shape one’s own energy future. Jan Kalyan brings the benefits of clean energy to households, farmers, entrepreneurs and communities. Vishwa Kalyan extends this vision globally, placing shared prosperity and universal well-being at the centre of the energy transition.
India’s global role is already taking shape through the International Solar Alliance and broader South-South cooperation. By connecting countries with finance, technology, project development and institutional capacity, the Alliance is helping convert solar potential into implementable projects across Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Small Island Developing States.
Yet the global transition remains uneven. High capital costs, limited access to technology, weak grids, vulnerable supply chains and skill shortages continue to separate ambition from progress.
The Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 has been designed to address this gap.
To be held at Bharat Mandapam in November, the Summit will bring together governments, investors, manufacturers, innovators and institutions to advance discussions on financing, manufacturing, technology, infrastructure and resilience. It will be held alongside the Ninth Session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the Fourth International Conference on Green Hydrogen.

India enters this conversation with experience, capability and credibility. The Bharat RE Summit will seek to convert that advantage into partnerships, investments and projects—and position India’s energy transition as a shared roadmap for the world.
