Bio
Mr. Shashank Jewalikar is a senior power systems professional with over three decades of experience in transmission engineering, grid operations, system protection, automation, and power system planning. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Maharashtra State Load Despatch Center (MSLDC), contributing to the reliable operation and continued modernization of one of India’s largest and most dynamic power systems.
Under his leadership, Maharashtra SLDC received the prestigious All India SLDC Excellence Award for 2023–24, along with the Best SLDC India Awards in 2024 and 2025.
He also led a pioneering Security Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) study at MSLDC, resulting in the development of the Drishti portal, which received the Diamond Award for Best Digitalization Project at the national level in 2026. This initiative reflects his commitment to innovation and the modernization of power system operations.
In his previous roles, Mr. Jewalikar played a pivotal role in enhancing automation at MSETCL, contributing to significant milestones such as the establishment of the Maharashtra Transmission Asset Management Centre. He also spearheaded the team responsible for developing a transmission network transition plan under the Maharashtra Energy Transition Plan, supporting the state’s transition towards a sustainable energy future.
He led system studies for the ambitious Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0, a key initiative aimed at integrating solar power into Maharashtra’s agricultural sector.
Mr. Jewalikar pioneered a structured approach to voltage management through systematic MVAr studies, initially implemented in the Marathwada region and subsequently adopted across Maharashtra to improve grid stability and power quality. His extensive technical expertise includes power system protection, equipment testing, and the commissioning of Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations across voltage levels ranging from 132 kV to 765 kV.
He also conceptualized and led the organization of the SLDC Summit, India’s first national forum dedicated to professionals working in State Load Despatch Centers. The summit established a unique platform for system operators and dispatchers from across the country to exchange operational experiences, discuss real-time grid management challenges, and share best practices in power system operations. By fostering dialogue and collaboration among dispatch professionals, the initiative has helped strengthen India’s load dispatch community and address the evolving complexities of modern power systems.
Committed to knowledge sharing and professional development, Mr. Jewalikar established the Power System Learning Center at MSETCL, where he has mentored and trained numerous engineers, helping shape the next generation of professionals in India’s power sector. He also actively collaborates with institutions such as IIT Bombay on power system optimization, grid operations, and energy transition studies.
