Professor Shaibal K. Sarkar
Professor - Department of Energy Science and Engineering IIT Bombay
Bio
Professor Shaibal K. Sarkar is a Professor in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay and holds a Ph.D. from the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. His research spans perovskite photovoltaics, scalable and low-temperature processing, advanced device engineering, reliability and degradation mechanisms, and the development of technologies aimed at future commercial deployment. His group has made significant contributions to high-efficiency perovskite solar cells, bifacial perovskite photovoltaics, flexible solar cells, scalable module fabrication, and advanced encapsulation technologies, along with the development of processing and characterization approaches for industrial translation. He has authored approximately 100 research publications and holds multiple patents related to perovskite solar-cell technologies. His recognitions include the Bhaskara Solar Research Fellowship, Dr. P. K. Patwardhan Award for Technology Development, MRSI Medal, and IIT Bombay Research Award. His research has also led to the technology and knowledge transfer of Atomic Layer Deposition systems, AI-enabled laser scribing systems, and laser-beam-induced-current imaging technologies, reflecting a strong emphasis on translating scientific advances into practical and deployable technologies.
