Bio
Prof. Dr. Ulrich Wilhelm Paetzold (born October 1, 1982) is a leading German physicist and Full Professor for Next Generation Photovoltaics at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), where he leads the Paetzold Lab under dual appointments at the Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT) and the Light Technology Institute (LTI). After completing his Ph.D. at RWTH Aachen/Forschungszentrum Jülich (2013) and a postdoc at imec in Belgium, he has become internationally recognized for his pioneering research on high-efficiency perovskite solar cells and perovskite/silicon tandem photovoltaics. Backed by major accolades like the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant, his group specializes in scalable manufacturing techniques—such as inkjet printing—and has set multiple efficiency world records, contributing over 200 peer-reviewed publications to the field of renewable energy.
