Bio
Professor Arun Kumar, currently serving as an Emeritus Fellow in the Department of Hydro and Renewable Energy at IIT Roorkee, has over 45 years of experience in hydropower, pumped storage, floating solar, environmental water management, energy economics, and policy.
He serves as an Independent Director of KSEBL and Vice President of the Federation of Indian Small Hydropower.He has served as Chairman of the Ministry of Power's Hydro Research Committee, on the boards of NHPC Ltd. (2015–19) and the International Hydropower Association (2021–23), and as MNRE and NEEPCO Chair Professor. Additionally, he was a Coordinating Lead Author for IPCC-SRREN and headed the Department from 1998 to 2011.Prof. Kumar led the development of standards for small hydropower (SHP) in India and currently chairs the Indian standards committee on SHP. He also established an internationally compliant hydraulic turbine testing laboratory. A Fellow of several professional institutions, he has received numerous national and institutional awards.
