Nishaanth Balashanmugam

Nishaanth Balashanmugam is the founding Director and CEO of GH2 India, India’s largest industry body dedicated to green hydrogen. A business graduate from Newcastle, UK, with over 18 years of industry experience, he has built GH2 India from inception into a Section 8 not-for-profit that brings together more than 130 member companies, central ministries, state governments and a broad network of international partners.

Under his leadership, GH2 India has established itself as the neutral, authoritative convener and ecosystem enabler of India’s green hydrogen sector, working across policy advocacy, market intelligence, capacity building and industry convening. He advises central and state government bodies on policy design, contracting and stakeholder engagement, and works with project developers on financing, standards and certification. His current priorities include export and offtake markets, maritime decarbonisation and green shipping fuels, and the skilling agenda required to deliver India’s hydrogen projects.

He established the organisation’s Advisory Boards, which together bring together over 30 high-profile leaders from government, industry and academia, and set up the Green Ports and Shipping Network (GPSN). He also initiated the Green Hydrogen India Academy, the Green Hydrogen India Symposium and the India Green Hydrogen Assembly, among others.

Before founding GH2 India, Nishaanth spent over a decade in senior management roles across Honda and Ford dealerships, managing over 150 employees. He brings that operating and commercial experience to the build-out of India’s hydrogen industry.
