Bio
Balawant is a veteran in renewable energy, with over 3 decades of experience across energy, infrastructure, and the utilities sector. His power sector expertise spans the entire value chain, including generation, transmission, distribution, and supply. He has been extensively involved in utility restructuring and reform, working on issues ranging from financial restructuring and regulatory matters to financial due diligence, assessment, and the development of Information Technology processes. His notable achievements include pioneering the first Feed-In Tariff (FIT) framework for wind, solar, and biomass technologies, implementing state-level Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPO), and designing the 'Renewable Energy Certificate Mechanism (REC)' in India. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree in Financial Management from the prestigious University of Mumbai.
