Lucknow Brings Clean Energy Closer to Everyday India in Bharat RE Summit 2026’s National Outreach

There comes a point in an energy transition when success is no longer measured only by the size of a solar park or the number of gigawatts installed. It is measured by how deeply clean energy enters homes, farms, cities and everyday economic activity.

That was the larger message as the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 roadshow reached Lucknow on September 10, its sixth regional stop after Jaipur, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. The Lucknow edition also widened the regional conversation, bringing Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand onto one platform as emerging destinations for clean-energy investment.

For Uttar Pradesh, the proposition is fundamentally about scale.

State Energy Minister Shri A.K. Sharma said Uttar Pradesh is committed to playing a leading role in India’s clean-energy transition by accelerating renewable deployment while creating an ecosystem for investment, innovation and industry participation. But he also pointed towards where that transition must now travel; rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar, compressed biogas, energy from urban waste and the emerging green-hydrogen economy.

That is significant for a state where the opportunity extends far beyond utility-scale generation. Uttar Pradesh’s Solar Energy Policy targets 22 GW of solar capacity, while encouraging rooftop systems, solarisation of agricultural feeders, solar parks, battery-backed utility-scale projects and solar cities. The policy envisages rooftop solar across around 13.5 lakh households, while the Bundelkhand Green Energy Corridor is designed to facilitate evacuation from 4 GW of solar projects.

The transition is also moving into newer fuels. Under its Green Hydrogen Policy, Uttar Pradesh is targeting one million metric tonnes per annum of green hydrogen and green ammonia production capacity by 2028, supported by manufacturing incentives, research centres and dedicated infrastructure.

Dr. Ashish Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy, Government of Uttar Pradesh, placed this growth within the state’s wider investment proposition. ‘UP is rapidly emerging as a significant force in India’s renewable energy landscape,’ he said, pointing to its progressive policy framework and robust transmission infrastructure as important enablers for the next phase of clean-energy expansion.

The presence of Shri Ravinder Singh, Director, Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency, alongside senior representatives from Bihar and Uttarakhand gave the roadshow a broader northern dimension. Shri Vishal Raj, Managing Director, Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited, represented Bihar as the three states collectively presented emerging renewable-energy opportunities to investors and industry.

That regional combination matters. Uttar Pradesh brings enormous demand, market scale and distributed-energy potential. Bihar is opening newer opportunities across solar, storage and grid modernisation, while Uttarakhand brings its own renewable-energy strengths and growing solar ecosystem. Together, they illustrate an important shift in India’s transition: clean energy is moving beyond traditionally resource-rich renewable states and into markets where consumption, agriculture, urbanisation and economic growth themselves can become engines of deployment.

Shri Anupam Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, joined the state leadership and industry representatives as the roadshow connected these regional opportunities with India’s larger renewable-energy trajectory. Shri Subrahmanyam Pulipaka, CEO, National Solar Energy Federation of India, opened the industry conversation around India’s clean-energy growth, while Shri Aseem Kumar, Director, MNRE, outlined what stakeholders can expect when the national and global ecosystem converges at Bharat Mandapam in November.

The larger Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo takes place from November 2–5 in New Delhi, alongside the 9th Session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen.

Jaipur demonstrated resource scale. Mumbai brought capital into focus. Hyderabad showcased an integrated southern ecosystem. Ahmedabad demonstrated first-mover leadership. Bengaluru brought integration and intelligence to the conversation.

Lucknow has now brought the transition closer to everyday India, where renewable energy moves from projects and policies into rooftops, farms, cities, industries and livelihoods.
