Brussels | Taking Clean Energy Cooperation into Industry
Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 | European Outreach
In Brussels, India’s renewable energy outreach turned to a practical question: where can policy dialogue become technology partnerships, manufacturing projects, and on-the-ground demonstrations?
At a roundtable held within the India–European Union Clean Energy and Climate Partnership, Shri Mayank Tewari and the Indian delegation engaged European industry leaders and sector experts on India’s energy transition and investment opportunities. The discussion considered how the existing partnership could support closer commercial, technology and investment cooperation.
Two follow-ups gave that conversation a sharper direction. The Solar Stewardship Initiative will share an overview of the sustainability and compliance requirements relevant to Indian solar manufacturers seeking access to the European market. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Indian industry are also exploring a dedicated briefing. SolarPower Europe will identify European research institutions, technology developers and companies interested in perovskite pilot projects in India, to develop concrete India–Europe initiatives.
The visit to John Cockerill’s headquarters and manufacturing facilities added an industrial dimension. The delegation examined the company’s electrolyser cell manufacturing and testing facilities, alongside its work in solar thermal energy, thermal storage and biomass. The discussion looked beyond renewable electricity to the challenge of supplying cleaner heat for industrial processes.
Three possible demonstrations in India emerged for further exploration: a solar thermal pilot, an industrial green-heat project using renewable energy and thermal storage, and a biomass or biogas project. The National Solar Energy Federation of India could help identify industry partners and suitable pilot sites. These remain proposals, but they offer a way to test technical and commercial relevance before considering wider deployment.
Brussels connected the broader India–Europe clean energy agenda to specific work ahead: clearer market guidance for solar manufacturers, potential next-generation technology pilots and possible demonstrations for industrial decarbonisation.
