New York | Financing the Next Wave of Clean Energy
BRE Summit & Expo 2026 | US Outreach
India’s installed renewable energy capacity grew from 76.38 GW in March 2014 to 288.58 GW in June 2026. In New York, that growth framed the next question: how can investment reach the technologies, infrastructure and communities that will shape the next phase?
India’s rooftop solar journey provided an entry point to that conversation. Alongside utility-scale projects, distributed energy needs financing models that can serve households, agricultural users, and smaller developers. The discussion then widened to the costs and risks of newer clean energy opportunities.
For battery storage, the focus was on project economics, policy support and whether viability gap funding can help bridge the cost difference. Offshore wind raised questions about high upfront capital requirements, seabed leasing and early-stage government risk sharing. Green hydrogen brought attention to cost competitiveness, demand aggregation and ways to reduce the risk faced by first movers. Transmission and grid modernisation were equally central: renewable capacity can only be deployed effectively if the infrastructure to carry and integrate it keeps pace.
Across these sectors, a common challenge emerged: investor interest needs to translate into projects that can secure financing. The New York agenda examined how blended finance, guarantees, credit enhancement and insurance could address payment, offtaker and currency risks. It also considered the role of clearer regulation, standardised power purchase agreements, green bonds, carbon markets and stronger project preparation in attracting long-term capital.
These are the conversations that Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 is designed to advance. The Summit brings policymakers, investors, technology providers and project developers into the same forum, where financing solutions can be examined alongside the technologies and implementation frameworks they must support. New York set out the questions; New Delhi offers the opportunity to connect the people and institutions working on the answers.
